wintering well
The year i decided to embrace winter with everything in me. To find little things to love and look forward to. Historically this season and I haven’t been the best of friends, but, alas, we’re leaning in and I’m warming up to her (lol)
Here are just a few snapshots of some of the things bringing life to what feels barren, teaching me the ways of doing winter well.
romanticizing EVERYTHING. this is a big part of my personality so I’m leaning into it, hard.
long sauna sessions. bed by 9pm. extra sleep and chilly walks.
overhead lights off and candles glowing at night, basically always.
stillness and time to press pause. to reflect and let the light sink in deep.
cozy everything (maybe this season was actually made for me???)
calling Tennessee home.
more time around tables, hot cider, lighting candles, gentleness.
every night feeling like it’s 10pm but it actually being 6pm then realizing all the time we have.
having horses for neighbors and waking up to frosted pastures.
telling those horses good morning and goodnight.
the gratitude i feel when rays of sunlight find my face.
game nights. moving slow. how sweet long nights in can be.
a glass of red.
pjs passing for actual clothes.
slow somatic workouts before bed.
cocktail nights with friends.
time to go inward, to rest, to retreat and sit still and know this is good.
Remembering the ways winter brings a magic of it’s own, perfectly designed, helping me embrace her instead of hiding away. i get to practice the beautiful hunt for her goodness instead of fearing the feelings and dreary days she brings.
for my fellow endless summer friends, send me your favorite winter hacks for thriving in the reality of this season.
What makes winter shine for you? what has she taught or given you?
